Minneapolis Support Modification Attorney

Things change.  People lose jobs, become unable to work, or simply don’t earn as much as they once did—especially in this economy.  Sometimes people become able to earn substantially more than they did before.  Either parent may request modification of the child support obligation.  In general, the parent making the request must show that there has been a substantial change in circumstances since the last child support order that makes the existing child support order unreasonable of unfair. If you are paying child support that is too high, or are receiving child support that simply is not enough under the circumstances, call us today at 763.315-1100 to discuss whether it makes sense to try to obtain a modification.

2007 Changes to Minnesota Child Support Calculations

Minnesota’s laws pertaining to the calculation of child support were changed  in 2007.  Beginning in 2008, persons with child support orders entered prior to January 1, 2007 were permitted to seek a  modification of their child support obligation based on the new guidelines even if there has not been any other change in circumstances.  While the new guidelines may result in little or no change in some cases, they may result in a substantial modification in others.  If you have a child support order entered prior to January 1, 2007, call our one of our family law attorneys today to discuss whether seeking a modification of your child support obligation may be cost-effective for you.
